The African Academy of Sciences
Before joining the AAS in January 2017, Elizabeth Marincola was CEO of PLOS, publisher of the world’s largest open access journal. At AAS, she is leading the development and launch of AAS Open Research, an innovative, transparent publishing platform, and serves on the Steering Committee for the Coalition for African Research and Innovation (CARI.)
She was President of the (U.S.) Society for Science and the Public, Publisher of Science News magazine, and Executive Director of the American Society for Cell Biology. She has served on the Board of Directors and as Acting Chair of the UK-based journal eLife.
Marincola is a member of the Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Humanitarian Health and was on the Strategic Planning Committee for the (U.S.) National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine. She received her A.B. from Stanford University and MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
