We are delighted to announce that Mari Sundli Tveit, Chief Executive of the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and President of Science Europe has been appointed as Chair of the cOAlition S Leaders Group.
Prior to joining the RCN, Mari was Professor of Landscape Architecture and Rector of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. As such, she is familiar with the debate around scientific publishing and the need for Open Access.
Commenting on her appointment as Chair of the cOAlition S Leaders Group, Mari said:
“cOAlition S has moved the needle in supporting policy changes to ensure that all research is published openly. Open Access ensures that others can access and re-use research to help address the huge societal changes we all face. I am keen to continue pushing for full and immediate Open Access and working to support initiatives that support the dissemination of research in a responsible, equitable, and sustainable way.”
Mari succeeds Marc Schiltz, who has stepped down from his role as Secretary General at the National Research Fund (FNR) in Luxembourg. Given Marc’s central role in developing and supporting Plan S from its inception in 2018, we are pleased to confirm that Marc will continue to provide strategic input to the cOAlition S Executive Steering Group as a non-voting member.
Mari will assume the role of Chair of the cOAlition S Leaders Group in June 2024. In the interim period, Lidia Borrell-Damian, Secretary General of Science Europe, will assume this role.
