cOAlition S is pleased to announce the appointment of OPERAS as its new Host Secretariat. The appointment marks an important step forward into the implementation phase of the coalition’s 2026–2030 strategy.
OPERAS, the European Research Infrastructure dedicated to open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities — and a long-standing advocate for Open Access across all disciplines — will provide administrative, financial, and communications support to the coalition.
“OPERAS brings a strong commitment to the values that underpin the mission of cOAlition S and extensive experience in managing member organisations. We are confident that this partnership will strengthen our capacity to deliver the 2026–2030 strategic priorities,” said Lidia Borrell-Damián, Chair of the cOAlition S Executive Steering Group. “We also want to express our utmost appreciation to the European Science Foundation, which has hosted the Office and supported cOAlition S since 2020,” she noted.
Yannick Legré, Secretary General of OPERAS, commented: “We are honoured to take on this role at such a significant moment. Open Access to research results is the foundation of a more equitable knowledge system, and it is at the heart of everything OPERAS does. We look forward to the work ahead”.
Nicolas Walter, Chief Executive Officer of the European Science Foundation (ESF), said: “Hosting the cOAlition S Office at ESF and supporting Plan S as it grew from a bold ambition into a standard for Open Access has been both a privilege and a reward. We wish OPERAS and the whole coalition every success in this next chapter”.
Further announcements on the cOAlition S leadership will follow soon.
